DATA T1

A Data T1 or Data T1s have been available for some 40 years. A T1 or T1s were originally designed to provide a way to save on copper pairs of telephone wire. Instead of incurring large expenditures adding more copper to existing building to add phone lines to a building, sending work crews in to possible trench up ground, to lay additional copper pairs, Western Electric/AT&T at the time our telephone monopoly developed a way to and digital transmission equipment to two copper pairs to create a T1 line to carrier 24 voice signals in one pair of copper. This T1 line digital technique added an incremental expense to the existing copper pairs while gaining a 24:1 ratio in voice capability.

The VOICE T1 was carried 24 channels of voice. The digital techniques defined 24 channels of transmitted data every 125 micro-seconds. Within this were 24 64kbps channels. Each channel for voice traditionally carried the signaling of the phone call within 8 bits of each channel in time. It was called bit rob signaling. The remainder of the 64 k packet or 56kbps was the voice data itself. ( I have not developed this story in detail but if anyone knows traditional analog modems they may find it curious to not that the max analog modem design was for 56kbps, or that some of the first digital circuits available for companies were 56Kbps.) Probably not a coincidence. Anyway back to the Data T1 or Data T1s. So some 40 years ago we had voice T1s and with the advent of computer data and the exponential growth of the Internet the need for Data transmission pipes arrived. The killer application of the Internet brought growth and need for the Data T1. A data T1 or Data T1s is simply the concatenation of 24 channels of 64kbos voice channels of the existing T1 line. 24 x 64kbps equals 1.54Mbps x 1.54Mbps. Yes this is the full bandwidth of a data T1. You can get fractional T1s from some carriers although the marketplace and FCC rules for local loops have changed the market that these are no longer cost effective. Full data T1s and Bonded T1s are the norm for most business applications.

The reasons why T1 lines are popular in business besides they can be served to almost any location with virtually no geographic limitations due to its technology and ability to add repeaters in long loop situations , unlike DSL which is limited to maybe 2.5 miles, is that the Data T1 is highly reliable almost never goes down. The customer is often buying an insurance policy with a Dedicated Data T1. Besides Dedicated bandwidth where it is not shared but essentially guaranteed T1 bandwidth a T1 line is the priority circuit that gets repaired. A T1 line typically has a 4 hr meantime to repair. That is by design and by purchase of the physical copper loops from the LEC (local exchange company) it is repaired in a 4 hour time frame. This is different for DSL and Cable connections that are both shared and also have open ended repair commitments. Also Data T1 or Data T1s can typically handle more users per circuit. They do not saturate with use. Tier 1 carriers like AT&T or Sprint you can pound the heck out of a T1 circuit and it works great. You can get real time T1 quotes of a Data T1 and other forms of Data T1s like bonded T1s at http://market2go.com by simply adding a your company, name email ID, install phone number. Or you can simply call a representative at 877-4 EASY T1 and give them the same information and they would be glad to pull together customer quotes from multiple carriers in your area in the US.
